Day-Night Test Match

cricket games 2017

Day/night Cricket is a form that's played in the evening with floodlights. The difference is in how the ball is colored. The ball is still playable during the day and it is white at night. The revenue of the host country is affected by the early ends of day/night test matches.

Day-night match between India & Bangladesh

India and Bangladesh will face off in the Day-Night Test, which will take place in Kolkata (India). The match will be played in Kolkata's Eden Gardens Stadium. It usually hosts no Test match at this time. The match will begin at 1:00 PM IST Monday and end at 8:00 PM on Tuesday. This change has been made to reduce the risk. The players will take a three hour break for lunch and tea. Then, the match will stop at 8 pm.

India won the first day night Test against Bangladesh after it won the toss. Virat Kohli and his team won by 46 runs after three days. Bangladesh was bowled out for just 195 in their second innings, with the help of the Indian pace attack. Umesh took five wickets in India's second innings, scoring 53 runs. Mohammed Shami was also a wicket taker in the opening innings.

Day-night, first-class match in India

The day-night first-class match is a relatively new concept in Indian cricket. Many first-class matches are played in winter. However, some are now being played in the summer. Day-night matches may also be affected by the effects of dew. In 1996-97, the Ranji Trophy final was played with white balls.

India began experimenting with Day-Night Long-Form Cricket in 1997. In 1997, it also played in Gwalior the Ranji Trophy final using a white ball. The country took some time to accept the concept. It forbade Australia from playing a Day Night Test during its 2018-19 tour. India hosted Bangladesh at Eden Garden for a Day Night match in 2019. The match ended in a one-wicket win for India.

Kookaburra changed the colour of the ball

In traditional day-night tests matches, a redball was used. These balls are not recommended due to the difficulty of seeing a ball under the floodlights. To solve this problem, Australian manufacturer Kookaburra came up with a solution. A pink ball instead of a red one would be easier to see in the floodlights.

Cricket balls are produced by three manufacturers: Kookaburra, Dukes, and SG. Each ball has a similar core with the exception that the seam colour is different for each. Kookaburra balls are made with two rows of threads hand-stitched by hand, while Dukes balls have four outer rows stitched by machines. Kookaburras flatten much faster than Dukes balls.

Loss of revenue can result from early finishes in day-night testing matches

Test matches are a huge source of revenue for a country, but their early finishes are affecting revenue for the hosting county. The ICC is losing nearly Rs 100 million per series due to early finishes. Moreover, they are affecting television audiences as the early finish can reduce the duration of a match.

While the excitement of a home nation's final is great for their fans, it can be detrimental for broadcasters as well as advertisers and sponsors. One recent example is the end of a Test match in Bengaluru at night due to rain. This resulted in a loss for the home board.

Problems facing bowlers and batsmen

Playing a day-night Test match can present different challenges to bowlers and batsmen. The pitch's darkness can impact the ball's movement. This can result in extra swing and seam. Day-night games will not be as challenging for spinners. The batsmen will still face many challenges. To ensure victory, the team must have a unique approach for day-night matches.

Day/Night Tests use a different day/night ball than the one used for shorter formats. Although the red ball is easily visible in daylight, it can become difficult to handle under fluorescent lights. International Cricket Council introduced a pink-colored ball for Day/Night Cricket Tests. The pink ball will be brighter, last longer in the Day/Night tests and present new challenges to the bowlers as well as batsmen.
